A recent CerebrumIQ user survey highlights how people perceive cognitive skills, their willingness to improve them, and the barriers preventing wider adoption of brain training tools.
Cognitive skills are often discussed in academic or professional contexts, but a new CerebrumIQ survey of over 5,000 global users suggests that public attitudes toward brain training are evolving rapidly. The findings offer a rare snapshot of how individuals see their own mental abilities and what motivates them to invest in cognitive growth.
According to the survey, 62% of respondents believe improving skills like memory, focus, and logic has a direct impact on career prospects. Meanwhile, 47% said they had actively sought tools or programs to enhance their mental performance in the past year, citing productivity, sharper decision-making, and reduced mental fatigue as the top benefits.
However, the results also revealed notable barriers. Nearly 40% of participants reported feeling unsure about how to measure progress in cognitive training, while 33% said cost was a limiting factor. A further 29% pointed to a lack of time as the primary reason for abandoning training programs. Access to courses was identified as a key differentiator between those who maintained regular practice and those who stopped after a few weeks.
Interestingly, younger users aged 18-25 were the most enthusiastic about gamified approaches, with 72% indicating they preferred interactive exercises over traditional lessons. Older participants, by contrast, were more likely to value in-depth courses, expert-led content, and measurable benchmarks.
When asked what would make them more likely to engage with brain training, 54% of respondents said they wanted personalized programs tailored to their goals, while 48% favored platforms that allowed them to track progress over time. This suggests that motivation is tied not only to content but also to clear feedback mechanisms.
The survey also explored attitudes toward the role of cognitive skills in everyday life. 58% of participants associated strong mental performance with greater resilience in stressful situations, and 44% linked it to improved interpersonal communication. More unexpectedly, 36% believed cognitive training helped them make better financial decisions, while 31% connected it to improved physical health habits, such as regular exercise and better sleep.
CerebrumIQ also asked users about their perceptions of cognitive decline and prevention. 41% expressed concern about age-related decline in memory and reasoning, with 27% already incorporating some form of brain training into their weekly routines to address it. Among those not currently engaged in training, 52% said they would be more likely to start if given a free baseline cognitive assessment.
For CerebrumIQ, the results highlight an opportunity and a challenge: while there is strong demand for cognitive improvement tools, sustained engagement depends on clarity, personalization, and perceived value. In an era where mental agility is becoming a key differentiator in both personal and professional success, understanding and addressing these barriers will be critical to widening access.
