Relationship assessments are no longer private curiosities, for many couples, they have become shared tools for emotional clarity, prompting new norms around disclosure and communication.
New data from MyIQ shows that relationship self-assessments are increasingly shaping how couples understand each other. In a recent survey of 2,487 adults who completed the platform’s Relationship Test, 64% reported sharing their results with a partner, and 42% said this led to a meaningful conversation about emotional needs. The findings suggest that digital assessments are moving beyond self-reflection, becoming shared instruments of interpersonal insight.
64% of respondents shared their results, often as a way to spark conversation about unmet needs, recurring tensions, or future plans. One respondent described how a five-minute test became the catalyst for a long-overdue discussion about emotional safety. Others reported using their results to explain previously unspoken frustrations.
The effects of sharing are not one-dimensional. Among those who discussed results, 56% said the test helped reframe recurring conflicts by offering a neutral language for expectations and behavior. But 21% reported that transparency intensified tensions, an indication that diagnostic clarity can come with interpersonal risk.
MyIQ also observed strong growth in test usage, particularly among users aged 18-34, a cohort that showed the highest rates of sharing. The increase coincides with the rise of relationship-focused content on short-form video platforms. 71% of respondents said they first encountered ideas about attachment styles or emotional compatibility via social media, underscoring how digital culture is normalizing relationship self-assessment.
The influence of these tests is limited but notable in decision-making. 29% of respondents said the results influenced a decision to enter counseling or renegotiate relationship boundaries, while 9% said it contributed to a breakup. For those who found the process constructive, the main benefit was conversational clarity, the ability to articulate needs that might otherwise stay implicit.
Where previous generations may have relied on introspection or therapy, today’s couples are using portable, structured tools to initiate dialogue. Rather than definitive diagnoses, MyIQ’s data shows that assessments function as shared artifacts, prompts for joint exploration that can foster recognition but also surface disagreement.
As emotional literacy becomes part of public conversation, MyIQ’s analysis highlights a growing etiquette around self-assessment in relationships. Sharing results is no longer a novelty; for many, it’s a standard part of understanding compatibility, accountability, and emotional alignment in modern partnerships.
