As AI assistants become a routine part of decision-making, money is emerging as a revealing test of how people use them. For many users, the first step is simply finding a private place to admit what they do not understand.
Money questions carry a kind of friction that has little to do with the complexity of finance itself. Admitting that a basic term is unfamiliar or that a decision feels confusing can expose gaps people would rather keep private. AI changes that first interaction because there is no other person in the room.
A Use.AI survey of 13,482 adults in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, the European Union, Australia, and Latin America found that 57% of regular AI users would consider asking an AI assistant for guidance before speaking to a human about an important financial decision.
The more revealing numbers concern embarrassment. 49% of regular AI users said they find it easier to ask AI money questions they would feel embarrassed asking another person. Another 44% said they are more comfortable admitting to an AI assistant that they do not understand something financial.
That privacy changes when help can begin. Someone who is unsure about a financial product does not need to arrive with a well-formed question. They can start with incomplete knowledge, revisit an explanation, and work out what they need to understand before involving another person.
The behavior already extends beyond definitions. 38% of regular AI users said they have used an AI assistant to compare financial options or explain a financial product, while 34% said they would prefer an initial explanation from AI to immediately arranging a conversation with a professional.
The boundary between explanation and advice becomes important as those conversations develop. Clarifying terminology may require little personal information. A financial decision with real consequences can depend on circumstances the system cannot fully see, including a person’s wider financial position and obligations. From the user’s side, however, both can happen inside the same chat.
Ihor Herasymov, Co-Founder & CEO of Use.AI, sees the shift beginning even earlier.
“AI is becoming where people make the first draft of a financial decision. A question can still be messy or half-formed, and people are willing to put it there. By the time they speak to someone else, AI may already have influenced how they understand the problem and what they think they need to ask.”
That earlier stage has usually been difficult to observe because much of it happened privately. People thought through a problem on their own, searched for explanations, or delayed asking for help until they felt able to articulate the issue. An AI assistant gives that private uncertainty somewhere to go.
The distinction could shape how financial conversations begin. A person may reach a professional after already using AI to understand unfamiliar language or test an initial assumption. The human conversation starts later in the process, with some of the uncertainty already worked through.
49% of regular AI users say it is easier to bring an embarrassing money question to AI than to another person. If that behavior continues, AI’s influence on financial decisions may begin well before anyone asks it for a recommendation. It may start at the moment a person decides they are finally comfortable asking the question.
