Most women say they are finished with 'situationships', Hint App data shows.

According to a recent internal survey conducted by Hint App with a representative sample of 3,412 women aged 23-45, 82% reported that they are "done with situationships", a term widely used to describe emotionally unclear or undefined romantic arrangements. For these users, emotional boundaries and self-awareness have become prerequisites to intimacy, not byproducts of it.

The trend aligns with a broader behavioral insight: many people initiate dating cycles without assessing their internal readiness, timing, or emotional priorities. This misalignment, Hint suggests, contributes directly to the proliferation of short-lived, ambiguous relational experiences. Among the same cohort, 68% said they had entered at least one relationship in the past two years that they later described as misaligned with their emotional needs.

Hint App has positioned itself not as a matchmaking service, but as a pre-dating framework, a structured emotional preparation tool designed to prompt reflection before romantic pursuit. Using guided symbolic assessments based on astrological, seasonal, and personal timing cues, the platform encourages users to identify their own emotional cycles and define core relational values.

Among a focused cohort of 1,240 women from the survey who reported engaging deeply with Hint’s self-reflection tools prior to dating, users reported distinct behavioral outcomes. Nearly half (48%) reported that they avoided entering a situationship within the next three months, and 71% said they felt increased confidence in declining advances that didn’t align with their stated intentions. Additionally, 63% of these women reported gaining greater clarity around emotional pacing and personal vulnerability thresholds. These findings are based entirely on self-reported responses gathered during the internal survey.

Hint’s approach centers on three foundational components that structure this preparatory phase. The first is emotional readiness, which involves identifying and regulating relational expectations before they are projected onto a new partner. The second is what Hint calls cycle alignment, referring to attunement to the behavioral, hormonal, or seasonal rhythms that shape openness or reactivity in relational contexts. The third is clarity on wants, the conscious articulation of non-negotiables as distinct from preferences that allow for flexibility.

Although the platform’s narrative centers on women, who disproportionately report the emotional cost of ambiguous dating, Hint’s internal data also included 1,980 men, of whom 43% expressed interest in tools that signal whether a potential partner had engaged in reflective preparation. This suggests that pre-dating rituals are not only preventive mechanisms, but also emerging social norms.

The rise in structured emotional introspection before dating marks a shift in how romantic agency is expressed. Rather than focusing on matching volume or external pursuit, more users are framing dating as a process of choosing from a place of internal clarity, not chasing from a place of emotional ambiguity. As this approach spreads, the cultural architecture of dating may continue to tilt toward discernment, boundary-setting, and inner timing.
