Nearly half of adults surveyed by Use.AI said they had asked chatbots about astrology, dreams, omens, rituals or other esoteric practices. For some, the responses influenced subsequent decisions and behavior.
AI chatbots are commonly used to summarize information, draft messages and solve practical problems. But users are also bringing them questions that cannot be settled by evidence alone: whether a dream was a warning, a coincidence was a sign or a ritual might influence what happens next.
Unlike a horoscope, book or social media post, a chatbot can absorb personal details, revise its interpretation and continue responding until the answer feels relevant to the person asking. That combination of immediacy, personalization and privacy is giving an old form of meaning-making a new technological setting.
In a self-reported survey of 7,000 adults across the United States, European Union, the United Kingdom and Latin America, 44% said they had asked an AI chatbot about astrology, dreams, omens, manifestation, rituals or another spiritual or esoteric practice. Among respondents who had used AI this way, 23% said an AI-generated interpretation had influenced something they later did in real life.
The survey was conducted by Use.AI and reflects respondents’ own accounts rather than an analysis of prompts, chat histories, product telemetry or other technical data from the platform. Unless otherwise stated, the remaining findings refer only to participants who said they had asked AI at least one spiritual or esoteric question.
The requests ranged from horoscope readings and dream interpretations to attempts to assign meaning to ordinary events. 29% had asked whether a repeated number, an unexpected meeting, a vivid dream or a coincidence should be treated as a sign.
The appeal appears to extend beyond entertainment. 35% of respondents who had asked an esoteric question said they had done so while facing uncertainty involving a relationship, work, relocation or another important choice. In those situations, spiritual language may offer a less direct way to approach a practical concern. Asking whether a dream was a warning can become a way of examining doubts about a relationship. A ritual can provide a defined action when the larger outcome remains difficult to control.
Some respondents asked AI to move beyond interpretation. 24% had requested a personalized ritual associated with love, money, luck, protection, closure or another personal goal. Chatbots can adapt familiar practices by suggesting wording, symbolic objects or a sequence of actions tailored to the circumstances described by the user.
Privacy also shaped how respondents used the technology. 32% said asking AI about a spiritual or superstitious belief felt less judgmental than discussing it with another person. A user can explore the premise without first defending it to a skeptical friend or disclosing it to someone whose reaction may carry social consequences.
But the boundary between exploration and guidance can narrow as the exchange becomes more personal. Respondents who said AI had influenced their behavior described contacting someone, delaying a decision, choosing a particular date, keeping an object as a talisman or performing a ritual before an important event.
Personalization can make an interpretation feel relevant without making it reliable. A chatbot does not need to claim supernatural authority for its output to carry weight. A detailed response may still provide reassurance, reinforce an existing preference or make one course of action appear more meaningful than another.
The ability to repeat a question may strengthen that effect. 18% said they had reworded the same esoteric question until the chatbot produced the interpretation they hoped to receive.
At that point, AI functions less as a source of prediction than as a system for generating possible meanings. Its influence may lie not in knowing what will happen, but in its willingness to keep producing interpretations until one feels true.
