New data from the Hint App reveals that emotional decisions remain firmly rooted in human intuition, even as algorithmic tools become more prevalent.
A new client survey conducted by Hint App reveals that 76% of respondents say they trust their own "gut" more than algorithmic recommendations when making emotional decisions, highlighting a growing divergence between the rise of artificial intelligence and a persistent cultural preference for human judgment. The data is based on a sample of 1,200 users surveyed in October 2025.
The survey, which examined how people navigate emotional decisions in the age of algorithmic influence, also found that 68% of respondents had tried using AI tools, such as chatbots or recommendation engines, for personal advice at least once. However, only 14% described the experience as "emotionally satisfying," and 57% said such tools felt "impersonal" or "mechanically detached." While AI may be accepted in logistical or technical domains, its emotional resonance appears limited.
When asked what qualities they value most in emotional decision-making tools, 74% of users cited the need for “symbolic reflection” and “personal meaning” over data accuracy or efficiency. This aligns with how people use the Hint App: not as a source of answers, but as a reflective framework. In open-ended responses, users described turning to symbolic systems when facing ambiguous or emotionally complex situations, which one respondent called “decisions that can’t be optimized.”
A deeper behavioral insight emerged around pacing. 49% of respondents said they had delayed a major life decision, such as ending a relationship, switching jobs, or moving cities, because they needed to “feel internally clear.” Among this group, nearly three-quarters said symbolic tools like astrology or palm readings helped them process their uncertainty more effectively than external advice from friends, therapists, or apps.
Interestingly, 33% reported using multiple systems, combining AI tools with astrology, journaling, or tarot, to triangulate emotional truth. This suggests a shift not toward technological rejection, but toward pluralistic decision-making, where intuition and interpretation coexist with information and structure.
This dynamic plays out in usage trends. The Hint App sees spikes around emotionally resonant periods, Valentine’s Day, New Year’s, wedding season, and the start of fall, when users appear most in search of meaning, ritual, or affirmation. Platform activity also increases following major life transitions, particularly breakups or post-therapy reflection. These moments aren’t simply about emotion; they’re about interpreting emotion, an act that many users find more accessible through symbolic systems.
The analysis frames a notable contrast to dominant narratives around AI. While much discourse emphasizes speed, efficiency, and predictive accuracy, Hint App’s data illustrates a consistent user preference for systems that foreground meaning, timing, and personal context. This preference is particularly pronounced among younger users and those seeking relationship guidance.
Taken together, the findings suggest a broader redefinition of emotional intelligence in the algorithmic age. Rather than treating emotions as noise to be managed or predicted, users appear to be reclaiming them as a distinct cognitive mode, one that resists simplification. Choosing intuition is not a rejection of technology; it is an intentional stance toward complexity, ambiguity, and the desire to be understood on one's own terms.
